My Cousin's Wedding

Most Chinese Filipino weddings nowadays incorporate elements of both Filipino, Chinese and western weddings. In most cases, the ceremony is at a Catholic church (since the Philippines is predominantly Catholic). There is, however, a traditional Chinese tea ceremony incorporated either between the ceremony and the reception, or after the reception itself.

Western influences show in the white wedding gown worn by the bride, and the presence of wedding attendants (maid-of-honor, best man, bridesmaids and groomsmen, ring and coin bearers and flower girls). Filipino influences show in the presence of principal sponsors, secondary sponsors, and, in some cases, Bible and rosary bearers (for the Catholic symbols of faith). Chinese influences show in the choosing of an auspicious date, the choosing of the right people for the entourage and the rules and taboos surrounding the wedding.

My cousin is getting married today, and my little boy is going to wear a suit for the first time, as he is their Bible bearer. We are excited to see him walk down that aisle. I just we have enough compact flash memory so that this event will be well recorded for us!
