Pregnant Women in Weddings

In traditional Chinese families, pregnant women are generally discouraged or even banned from attending weddings. It is believed that a pregnant woman is full of "hok" (good fortune) and so are the newlyweds. If a pregnant woman attends a wedding, she is believed to be absorbing the "hok" that should have been reserved for the newlyweds.

The pregnant woman, however, is allowed to attend the reception, just not the wedding proper.
